Sunshine Blogger Award

Currently I am trying to make a “comeback” with my blog. I think the last couple of weeks I put out 4 new blog posts woohoo! That’s a big deal for me (lately, ha). Please don’t double check me I could be wrong. For whatever reason maybe the kids being out of school, life, poor time management, or maybe I don’t know all of the above. I just haven’t been able to find the time to blog. <– LAME EXCUSES because honestly I really love blogging and I really pour my heart in to my writing. I can’t explain why but, I have been having the hardest time finding my “groove.”

Cue the Sunshine Blogger Award.

A couple days ago I received a facebook message from Andrea over at Walking in the Sonlight. You can find Andrea here. Andrea nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award! How awesome is that? Thank you so much Andrea for finding me in my tiny little space on the internet. Thank you for your kindness and encouragement. The nomination couldn’t have been more timely.

Speaking of timely nominations, Renzi from House of Delros nominated my earlier this year for this exact award. Thank you Renzi! Because I have been a slacker this year, I have yet to officially thank and accept her nomination before now. Your encouragement and kindness has not gone unnoticed thank you Renzi. You can find Renzi here.

Renzi’s 11 Questions for Her Nominees

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

Honestly? I had been so caught up holding my home, husband, children and myself to these impossible standards of perfection that I was driving myself crazy. As I began practicing grace within my home I noticed that things were changing. A perfect home, a perfect family, a perfect marriage was driving me insane. It was at that point that I realized, if perfect meant living in a state of constant stress than something needed to change. I evaluated grace and started practicing it on myself and my family. As I looked at myself and my family as 6 imperfect people living together the stress started to be more controlled.

Practicing grace in our home has seriously changed things. Perfection is so overrated, grace is where it’s at. The name of my blog “Grace Inspired Home” was a natural choice for me as I had been practicing grace within my home.

Name three people who inspire you and why.

Rachel Hollis from GWYF because she came from very humble beginnings and has done real well for herself. Jenna Kutcher from the Goal Digger Podcast is very body positive and has done real well for herself within the blogging world/podcast world. On a different level Ilana Muhlstein from the 2B Mindset has inspired me to lose weight and get healthy for my family in such a fun/practical way. All 3 of these ladies have inspired me big time.

What are some of your goals for 2018?

I have a couple different goals for 2018. You know lose some weight, spend less money than we make, and get rid of some debt. For my blog I want to be more intentional and blog 2-3 times a week. I hope to learn to monetize my blog, drive traffic and increase my online presence. I hope to find a few bloggers to learn from.

If you found a bag or a box with $1M cash inside, what would you do with it?

I have one of the worlds most guilty conscience… I would be seriously conflicted ha! I’d LOVE to eliminate student loan debt… like in the worse way. I’d totally pay off our debts and then go on a vacation ha.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

I have always been an introvert. It’s not that I don’t like people… it’s just I’m quiet until you get to know me. After you get to know me watch out ha! Just teasing.

What are four things your kids will remember about you?

How much I love my family and Jesus. That I have a song for everything under the sun. That I don’t play video games and I love their daddy even if the xbox drives me insane. 🙂

What is your favorite social media platform and why?

Instagram! Out of them all I love instagram most! This isn’t a really big surprise considering I love taking pictures. IG is instant satisfaction and sharing.

What is your favorite season?

Fall! I love when the leaves change and the cooler weather rolls in. There’s just something I love about chili, football and all things pumpkin (coffee, cakes, chili, pumpkin patches, etc). Plus after fall comes Christmas and what’s not to love about that.

What movie genres do you like watching?

NOT SCARY MOVIES! I’m a fan of movies that have happy endings ha. My favorite is 50 first dates is a favorite for sure.

What is/was your favorite childhood meal/snack?

Favorite childhood meal was likely some form of Italian food like lasagna or ziti! For sure pizza has always been a favorite. Snack? You know I’m not a real big snacker. I do like popcorn if I have to pick something.

How many things do you have on your bucket list?

I currently don’t have a bucket list! I need to get on that! I’d love to travel with the family more for sure. I want to go to the Maldives and Santorini, Greece!

Andrea’s 11 Questions for Her Nominees

What is the most memorable thing that God has done in your life?

I have been trying to figure out how to answer this question. Honestly, I cannot look around without seeing the Hand of God on my life. Every single day I thank God for blessing me with 4 beautiful, healthy children and a husband that loves my guts. Over the years God has showed up BIG and has always proven to be so good to me (albeit in His time and His ways). Looking back I can see God through the ups and downs and I’m certain He’s been with me every-step-of-the-way.

When I was pregnant with my daughter I had a genetic test result come back that was very scary at the 20 week ultrasound. If the test results were correct we were facing so much uncertainty with our little angel. It was honestly the single hardest thing I’ve gone through; really that Brian and I have gone through as a married couple and he was in the military. To say that my pregnancy with my daughter was a very big faith walk for Brian and I would be somewhat of an understatement. Not every moment was filled with me full of faith, many moments were filled with tears, a little anger and a whole lot of questions. However, had it not been for our faith, I am not sure how I would have gotten through the last half of my pregnancy.

Long story short, when my daughter was born she made a heck of an entrance in to the world with an emergency c-section. You guys, I kid you not as soon as I could, I examined her through tear streaked eyes. I counted every-single-finger and every little toe and cried as she cried she was perfect in every single way. Thanks God. All that worry and all those tears… It’s so hard to trust God with things sometimes. How silly does that sound. Yet through it all God had my daughter in His hands the entire time!

What is your Spiritual Gift?

Essentially I was stopped in my tracks when this question came up. Actually, I’ve spent the last week or so thinking on this subject. It’s been so long since I’ve thought about my spiritual gifts. It’s always so easy for me to see the gifts in others but when it comes to myself I see so clearly my flaws. (Am I the only one that is like this?) I believe that God has given me the gift of exhortation. Exhortation in short is to encourage someone to do something.

God has given me the gift of exhortation to help other people see who they are in Christ. To encourage others through Biblical truths whether it is in written or spoken word. According to the Ministry Tools Resource Center, the gift of exhortation is, “to come along side of someone with words of encouragement, comfort, consolation, and counsel to help them be all God wants them to be.” This is why grace has been a big part of my life and blog and why I encourage people to hold themselves to a standard of grace NOT perfection. <– A new realization.

What other talents are you blessed with outside of writing?

You know, I never looked as writing as a talent of mine. I suppose I do have the ability to write with my heart. Usually I write about subjects that mean a great deal to me. A subject that I’m extremely passionate about and they seem to be my best/proudest blog posts. I’m not a perfect writer or blogger by any stretch. So that’s pretty cool. I’m not exactly good at talking about myself. I do enjoy photography and cooking and sometimes taking pictures of what I cook (ha!). I also enjoy building things with my hands and decorating my home.

What is your favorite book?

This year I’ve read 25 or so books. The stand out book for me so far this year is “Girl Wash Your Face” by Rachel Hollis. I wrote all about it on this blog post here. Honestly, I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I’ve come back to that book since I first read it in February. Last month I purchased the audible version and listened to it again. Girl Wash Your Face in my opinion is a 2018 Must Read!

Do you play an instrument? If so, which instrument(s) do you play?

I used to play the trumpet as a kid! I play throughout High School and really enjoyed it. A couple years ago my husband bought me an acoustic guitar. It currently is sitting in my bedroom closet. I have yet to teach myself how to play. I need to get on that!

What do you consider to be your favorite vacation spot? Why?

My favorite vacation spot should be the beach or the mountains or something of that sort but, honestly my favorite vacation spot is anywhere with my family. We have had some beautiful getaways to the mountains and the beach. Ocean City and Assateague will always be a favorite location for me because we always have such a wonderful time there.

What is one item you cannot live without?

Without question my iPhone and coffee ha! Have you seen my Rae Dunn Collection?! I use my iPhone for a camera more than an actual phone. To be honest 9 times out of 10 my iPhone is being used as a camera more than an actual phone. This makes my iPhone incredibly valuable to me.

What is your favorite (current or childhood) family tradition?

I tend to be a very nostalgic person. I love creating traditions for my family. This summer for instance we started a weekend tradition of getting donuts either Saturday or Sunday morning. I don’t know who enjoys it more the kids or Brian and I. Another favorite of mine would definitely be seasonal photos. Taking pictures of the kids in the fall, Christmas season and Spring makes me so happy. Literally I look forward to these photos all year round. Christmas jammies are also a favorite tradition of mine.

Who has been the biggest spiritual influence in your life?

I’ve been thinking about this and I really don’t know how to answer this question. I read a lot and I’ve been influenced by many people over the years. I’m inspired by Mother Teresa and her kind heart.

If you could meet anyone past or present, who would that be?

If I could meet any person I’d love to meet my Aunt Cheryl. My dad had a sister that died before I was born. I don’t know much about her but, I know enough to know that my dad loved her dearly. I’d love to meet my Aunt Cheryl.

What person from the Bible could you most relate to?

Jonah. Can you imagine being swallowed by a whale? We all know the story of Jonah and the giant fish from Sunday school. How Jonah was in the belly of a whale for 3 days and 3 nights where he prayed and praised God. The giant fish threw Jonah up on the shores of Nineveh where he preached and warned the people of Nineveh to repent before the city was destroyed.

I think it’s funny that despite knowing exactly what God wanted Jonah to do he decided to go the complete opposite direction and do what he wanted. Sometimes I can be stubborn as well. Honestly, I cannot even tell you how many times I’ve not even deliberately taken a different route than what God had for me… Do you have any idea how many times I’ve proclaimed… if I’d only listened to God from the beginning?

Anyways, God’s funny and concerned with the lives of all His children. It’s not always easy but surrendering to God’s Will in our life is always the best, easiest choice we can make. This is why I’m so thankful for grace upon grace.
