The News Lately

Sometimes things happen in our life that leave us completely baffled and at a loss for words.

What a scary world we live in.

I woke up this morning to my alarm clock ready to start another week. I looked down at my phone and before I could even see straight saw several different news updates across my screen. There was a shooting in Las Vegas at the Route 91 Harvest Festival last night… My heart hurts for the family members and friends of all those that are deceased or injured.

The headlines read: “Las Vegas Massacre,” “Las Vegas shooting: At least 59 dead, more than 520 injured in massacre,” and countless posts on both Instagram and Facebook offering up prayers for the victims of those unsuspecting concertgoers.

Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Katrina in recent days left many people without food, water and electricity. Communities are still rallying to support the communities that have been impacted by these hurricanes. Recovery from these natural disasters is going to be long and arduous.

I have no profound realizations, no answers to why these things are happening. I honestly do not even know what to say… I’m truly at a loss for words. I wanted to use this opportunity to offer resources available to help those victims of recent hurricanes/natural disaster and most recent the victims and family members of those lost at the Concert in Las Vegas. Our country needs our support and they need our prayers. God Bless the USA!

Las Vegas

Donate Blood:

Given the number of injuries and surgeries taken places as a result, blood donations are important. Whether or not you live in Las Vegas it’s so important to donate blood. Consider locating a donation center nearby. An article I read today suggests that people make donating blood a regular occurrence. Blood helps save lives. Regardless if you live in or near Las Vegas it is recommended that people donate blood regularly to help ensure in a lifesaving situation resources are available.

To find a blood donation center near visit the American Red Cross page here. Also if you reside Las Vegas consider visiting a local blood bank. Please be sure to visit this site for 6 Local Blood Donation locations.

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico was just hit by a hurricane and they need our help! Hurricane Maria, mass flooding and serious destruction has put this beautiful island at risk. They need help! Consider donating money to aid in relief for the people of Puerto Rico. Consider donating to funds to one of these organizations. Monetary donations are important at this point as these funds can be allocating to best meet the needs of the people of Puerto Rico.

UNICEF USA (here).

A donation to UNICEF will provide critical support to the children of Puerto Rico and their families. A $28 donation will provide, “basic, essential supplies such as water purification tablets, a water bucket with lid, water containers, soap, toothpaste, detergent and sanitary pads. The supplies will help children and their families keep clean and healthy, protecting them from diseases that can occur after the loss of equipment and infrastructure and the disruption of a safe water supply.”

Other organizations to consider amongst others (this list is not exhaustive) Also please consider visiting the crowdfunding platform “GoFundMe” by clicking here.
